The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the promotion of over 2,000 teachers following successful interviews conducted in January and February this year.
The promotion interviews for post-primary school teachers were held between January 27 and February 6, 2025, covering institutions such as secondary schools and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
TSC also conducted interviews for primary school teachers from January 13 to January 23, 2025. The interview panel included curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), Human Resource Officers, and Sub-County Directors, who focused on document verification.
Old teachers were the most favoured by the TSC promotion scorecard, with teachers aged 55 and above getting the highest score.
Teachers between 50 and 54 received 26 points while those between 45 and 49 scored 22 points. Meanwhile, teachers between 40 and 44 scored 18 points while those between 30 and 39 received 14 marks.

Teachers who applied for promotions can check their status through the Teachers Service Commission website.
The promotion comes a month after the teachers’ employer deregistered 33 teachers after a disciplinary process.
In the gazette notice dated February 14, 2025, TSC Chief Executive Secretary Nancy Macharia listed the full names of the deregistered teachers.
“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act Chapter 212 of the laws of Kenya, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers under the provision of section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act,” the statement read.
Macharia ordered the affected educators to cease teaching with effect from the date of their names’ removal from the TSC register.
TSC warned that unregistered teachers found teaching shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of not less than one hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both.
