TSC: Teachers with preexisting conditions, above age 58 to stay at home

TSC Teachers Leave: The Teachers Service Commission has announced that teachers in Kenya who are above the age of fifty eight will continue to stay at home. These teachers will continue to stay at home together with teachers who have preexisting conditions.

This announcement was made by the TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia. The TSC boss said that this directive was based on a presidential directive of which the affected teachers will not be sacked or denied salaries.

Dr. Macharia further announced that teachers would now be covered for illnesses related to the coronavirus. “The TSC has negotiated for teachers to be covered for Covid-19 related illnesses,” she said.

This announcement came shortly after the Ministry of Education announced the resumption calendar for all schools in the country.

According to the cabinet secretary for education Professor George Magoha, all schools in Kenya will reopen on January 4, 2021.

CS Magoha also announced that all four-year-olds will join Pre Primary One (PP1) in July 2021.

Children who are currently in PP1, PP2, Grade 1,2, 3 and Class 5,6, and 7 and Forms one, two and three will start their second term on January 4 and end it on March 19.

All learners except those in class eight and form four will then take a seven week holiday to pave way for the national examinations. In July 2021, Grade four pupils will transition to grade five.

Grade four and incoming Form One students who are currently in class eight will stay at home as other learners complete their third term. TSC Teachers Leave.
