Outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday went on a subtle rant over the decision by Kenyans to vote for Dr. William Ruto as the next president.
Speaking during a meeting with the newly elected Azimio la Umoja leaders, Uhuru appeared to condemn Kenyans for voting in Dr. Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza alliance, saying that they had denied themselves unity. This meeting was held at Masai Lodge in Kajiado.
“You denied yourself an opportunity to bring the country together. You haven’t denied Raila,” said Uhuru.
Kalonzo makes yet another U-turn to vie for Senate Speaker
He further pointed out that former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka would have made a better Chief Minister in comparison to Musalia Mudavadi who will now take up this position.
Uhuru however said that he will hand over power to Dr. Ruto since he is obligated to do so by the constitution. “I will hand over power smiling because it’s my Constitutional duty to do so, but my leader is Baba Raila Odinga,” Uhuru said.
During a recorded video that was released hours after the Supreme Court upheld the election of Dr. Ruto, Uhuru had notably failed to congratulate his deputy or even mention him by name.
He had instead chosen to subtly condemn the Supreme Court for failing to nullify the election as had been petitioned by the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
