Azimio la Umoja has called off vigils that were scheduled to be held at the Supreme Court and all IEBC offices across Kenya.
This cancellation came a few hours after announced that the coalition that is being led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced that it will start holding vigils at Supreme Court and all offices across Kenya belonging to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
“The coalition members will also stage a peaceful seven day vigil at the Supreme Court and all IEBC offices countrywide,” the coalition had announced.
The coalition had instructed its members to attend a briefing in Nairobi for orientation on how the vigils will be carried out.
“All Azimio leaders including MCAs are hereby requested to gather at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Nairobi County starting 9am on 28th, August 2022 for a briefing,” the coalition had said.
Security Council demanded Raila victory or run off, IEBC Commissioner says
The cancellation, the coalition announced was based on internal consultations. “We have cancelled the earlier plans after consulting widely with the senior party officials. The church service will however stand as we had told our supporters. We urge them to join us for the church service in Kibra,” the coalition announced.
Hearing of the petition that has been filed by Raila Odinga challenging the presidential victory of current deputy president William Ruto is set to begin next week.
