Vohra Accident: The Sarova Hotels Chairman, Mohinder Singh Vohra, his wife, daughter and daughter-in-law died on Sunday in a grisly accident on the Nairobi-Mombasa road.
Confirming the accident, Mukaa Police boss Charles Muthui said two of the victims died on the spot while two others perished on arrival to the hospital.
Mohinder’s son, Saveer Vohra, who was driving the car at the time of the accident was rushed to the Sultan Hamud hospital before being airlifted to Nairobi.
Witnesses recount how the speeding Toyota Prado the family was travelling in veered off the road while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a lorry and landed into a ditch.
The family was returning to Nairobi from a memorial service of Mohinder’s son J.S Vohra at the Makindu Sikh Temple.
The bodies of the four relatives were moved to Machakos County Referral Hospital mortuary while the wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Salama Police Station.
This is the latest tragedy to hit the Vohra family, which lost their son, JS Vohra, last year in a road crash.
JS Vohra, a racing enthusiast, died after his car rolled near Amboseli Lodge while going to watch the East African Safari Classic Rally in November last year.
