Governor Waiguru Wealth: In 2018, controversial Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru announced that her wealth stands at less than Sh. 300 million.

She went on to reveal that apart from her residential houses, she owns rental apartments in Mulolongo, outside of which she doesn’t own any large tracts of land in the country.

In a TV interview with Jeff Koinange, the governor said she is not a billionaire as most Kenyans think, adding that she is worth less than Sh. 300 million.

“The people I am being ranked with are multi-billionaires. You can’t compare that with less than Sh. 300 million,” she said.

“There have been lots of stories on social media about what I own. I don’t own anything on Luthuli Avenue,” said Waiguru.

She also denied owning several other properties among them a lakeside hotel in Taita, an estate in Karen, a building on Ngong Road, a mall, as well as matatus and buildings in Murang’a County. She also refuted claims that she owns 200 acres of land in Nanyuki while claiming “I don’t even own a quarter acre anywhere.”

During the interview, Governor Waiguru however admitted to owning several properties among them a house in Kihingo Village, Kitusuru where she currently resides. “I also own a house in Runda, which I had before joining government,” she revealed.

Waiguru further stated that she owns property at Mlolongo along Mombasa Road which she developed using a bank loan.

“I took a loan of Sh. 50 million in 2013,” said the governor, while revealing that she’s paying the loan.

Waiguru said that she owns two half acre pieces of land, one in Lukenya and another with a rentable space in Sagana.

Ms Waiguru was recently ranked as the second most corrupt leader in the country after Deputy President William Ruto by research firm Ipsos Synovate.

Ms Waiguru maintains that she is not corrupt and has never been charged in court despite being linked to the 2016 National Youth Service scandal that led to the loss of Sh. 791 million.

She questioned the validity of the Ipsos poll pointing to the fact she was ranked above former President Moi on corruption. “It (the poll) also ranked me above the former President Moi, who ruled this country for 24 years… I mean, how ridiculous can it get? Everybody knows what we think about the Moi era. Are you saying that I stole more than Moi?” she said. Governor Waiguru Wealth.
