Former Citizen TV News anchor Waihiga Mwaura has graduated from Daystar University, adding another feather to his illustrious education portfolio.

The BBC Africa journalist, who holds a degree in Computer Science from Africa Nazarene University, has now completed a Master’s program in Media Studies.

Waihiga, alongside his wife Joyce Omondi, shared the news of his graduation on their Instagram accounts. The recipient of the Komla Dumor Award attended the graduation ceremony accompanied by his wife.

“SO SO proud of you!! Congratulations my love!” Joyce captioned on her post.

On his part, Waihiga noted that his wife’s support throughout the journey was a key cornerstone for his success. He admitted to having experienced his fair share of trouble. With resilience and a prayerful heart, he saw light at the end of the tunnel.

“God done did it. M.A. in Communication (Media Studies). What a journey this has been, one I thought would never end (story for another day). But here we are,” he wrote in his Instagram post.

“So many people to thank. My beloved Joyce Omondi for all the support through this journey. My family who encouraged me to never give up.”

Waihiga stated that he had received encouraging messages from Daystar University PhD students. He quoted American Human Rights activist Malcolm X, stating, ‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today’.

Earlier this year, Waihiga Mwaura resigned from Citizen TV, leaving behind 14 exceptional years of memorable contributions at the RMS-owned station. On his last day on live air, his wife teamed up with Trevor Ombija and other staff to surprise him with a cake.

“After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has come to an end,” he said.

He joined Citizen TV as a sports reporter and anchor, gradually climbing the ladder to regularly hosting ‘#MondayReport with Waihiga Mwaura’. At his time of exit, Waihiga Mwaura held the position of Multimedia Managing Editor.

Waihiga joined BBC to host the show Focus on Africa, on June 5th, 2023.
