What does it mean to be healthy? A healthy person shows physical, mental and/or emotional well-being. They are free from disease, they can positively manage stress and have healthy relationships with the people in their lives. Health is important for business. We will look at how physical, mental and emotional health affects how one runs their business, and why it is important to stay healthy in these areas.
Physical Health
To be physically healthy means to be strong, fit, flexible, active, alert, free from disease. A physically fit person has higher endurance and can go longer hours under strenuous circumstances. Imagine being a businessman and having to conduct long meetings with clients; the healthier you are, the better you’ll be at performing such a task. Ultimately, your business will be more successful if you can give it more of your time.
Physical fitness can be achieved by eating a healthy diet, drinking enough water, exercising, visiting the hospital for regular checkups, staying away from alcohol and harmful drugs and getting enough rest and sleep. Here’s how lack of these attributes will affect your business:
- Failing to keep fit may result in health complications which will affect one’s creativity, commitment and concentration on important business matters. As a businessman, you may fail to attend important meetings thereby compromising your business.
- Lack of enough sleep will cause tiredness and crankiness, affecting one’s relationships with  partners, employees and clients.
- An alcoholic or drug abuser cannot effectively run a business and may ruin existing and potential business relationships.
Mental Health
Mental health has to do with the mind, which is crucial for every business man. A mentally healthy person is able to stay positive through difficult situations and does not give up easily as they know they can do it. Business is tough, especially for beginners. Nothing comes easy and a weak mentality cannot sustain a businessman long enough. One can cope better with stressful situations when they are mentally healthy. They are also very productive and bring about a positive impact to those around them.
Mental health is boosted when you are surrounded with people who lift you up rather than discourage you almost always. Staying physically fit, contributing towards the community and getting enough sleep are also necessary.
Emotional Health
Emotionally healthy people are happy, confident and go-getters. Just like mental health, emotional health is evident when one has  positive reactions to anything negative that happens in their area of business. One is able to cope in a tenacious business world if they are emotionally stable. Instability can cause one to make irrational decisions.
A business man may be very successful, but if they do not stay healthy, they will fail miserably in forming and maintaining mutually satisfying relationships, which may cause them not to feel so successful after all. Likewise, happiness is a huge contributing factor to how one performs.
If you feel like you are not emotionally stable, there are things you can do to improve your mood, attitude and enjoy life better. Go out more, connect with people and exchange ideas, travel and exercise. Many successful people attribute their good moods to exercise; after exercising, they feel happier, in a better mood, more alert, more creative and are more understanding of others’ actions.
