Kajiado County Government has blacklisted companies purporting to sell  small pieces of land in the rapidly growing county.
Governor Joseph  Ole Lenku declared the sale of 1/8 and 1/4 pieces of land as illegal and warned investors that there was no such land being sold legally.
“Those advertisements on TV about prime lands I Kajiado is a web of conmanship. We cannot issue legal titles to  such pieces of land. I am warning those buying such lands as risking their money,” Mr Lenku said.
The Governor said such plots were only available within the urban centres and anyone purporting to sell plots in the interior parts of the County as doing it at their own risk.
“We cannot guarantee the titles are legal. We cannot authorise  sale of such unsustainable lands,” the Governor said.
He said the con men were lying that the lands were near urban centres to attract buyers  yet they were more than 100 Km away from the town’s.
And in a quick response to the Governor’s statement The National Land Commisssion joined the fray and supported the County Government.
Land Commission Vice Chairman Abigael Mbagaya said the Commisiin would support the blacklisting of the illegal sale.
“Our appetite to own land anywhere has led to this greedy rush for land that  cannot be productive,” said Mrs Mbagaya.
The two spoke when the Governor launched the County’s Spatial Plan at Maasai Technical Training Institute in Kajiado Town.
The plan which is being done by  Geomaps Africa and a battery of scholars will devise ways to develop sustainable resource use.
Kajiado Lands Executive Hamilton Parseina blamed the local land boards chaired by administrators for the corruption that has becone the face of land deals in the County.
” We must change the composition of the land boards. Some administrators have abdicated from their duties and are allowing illegalities in land sale,” said Mr Parseina.
The National Land Commission has expressed support over the move. NLC vice-chair Abigael Mbagaya said the Commission had received hundreds of complaints about plots that are 200 kilometres away from their advertised locations.
