12 harsh lessons learnt in 20s

Aging is part of life. It’s a fact that when you grow old and, you come face to face with life lesson which can make or break you. These lessons mostly hit while one is in his/her 20s. Below is a list of few harsh lesson which is likely to be experienced while in your 20s.

 1. Set a number for yourself.

What do you value in one of your hours? If someone offers you work for less than that number, decline. If it will cost you less to hire someone else to do what needs to get done than what it would cost you at your valued rate, hire them.

2. Nobody cares

Have you ever broken a leg or fell on your face?

Especially when it comes to work and business, nobody cares. Well, that’s not true — if you work with good people, they care. But they also don’t. They expect you will keep to your word and get done what needs to get done, or pass it off to someone else who can finish the job.

3. You suck at communicating.

Most fights stem from a lack of communication and misunderstandings. If you feel like you are over-communicating, you probably are — and that’s a good thing.

4. 95% of friends are only your friends in certain surroundings.

Your friends are mostly your bar friends. Your workout friends are probably your gym friends or music friends. If you find someone who you are friends with regardless of what you do together, that’s a real friend. Prioritize them.

5. Your “successful” peers aren’t that successful.

I know it seems like everyone graduated college and is making six figures and vacationing in Dubai, but they’re not. That gold watch you see them wearing, you can buy it at any watch shop in the city. All their new outfits are passed down from older friends. Their vacations to Dubai, their dad hooked it up. In general, this is usually how it goes. Don’t worry, they’re all just as lost as you are.

6. Nobody has any idea what they want to do in life.

Everyone seems super together, seem to have a plan and to know exactly where they’re going. Sit down with that person for a one on one dinner, and they’ll probably reveal to you their long list of fears and anxieties.

7.Hangovers aren’t acceptable excuses anymore.

Hangovers actually makes you look like a child. Get your life together.

8. The day starts after your 8–5.

If you leave your office and go home and do nothing but watch a series, and you’re still in your 20s, imagine what your life is going to be like in your 50s. Really boring. Get a hobby.

9. Nothing happens unless you make it happen.

There is no, “Hey, one day, I’m going to catch my break and something is just going to happen. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You either wake up every day banging down that door until it opens, or it stays shut forever. Up to you.

11. Reading is actually really important.

I get it, we all learn in different ways. But if the last book you read was The River between back in high school, then you need to hit up a bookstore.

12. You have nothing to lose, even though you think you have everything to lose.

Your 20s are experimental years. They are building years full of risks. Try it all, fall and dust it off.
