2024 KCSE results breakdown: Over 1,600 candidates record straight As

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Thursday, January 9, released the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results.

Announcing the results at Mtihani House in Nairobi, CS Ogamba said 962,512 people took the nationwide examination, which concluded on November 22, 2024.

The number of females who sat the exam was 482,202 while male candidates were 480,310, marking the first time female candidates outnumbered their male counterparts since KCSE’s inception.

In the last year’s exam, 17 subjects, including Maths, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, recorded improvements while 10 subjects, including English and Home Science, recorded drops in performance.

Some 1,693 candidates scored grade A, while a total of 246,391 scored direct entry to university grades of above C+ compared to 201,133 in 2023.

Those who scored A- were 7,743 candidates, while 19,150 candidates scored B+. Meanwhile, a total of 43,120 scored B plain,75,347 scored B minus, and 99, 338 scored C+.

On the other hand, 6,889 candidates attained over C-minus and above (49.41%), while those with D plus and above were 605,774 (62.76%).

At the same time, results of 2,829 candidates suspected to have been involved in exam malpractices have been withheld pending completion of investigations that should be completed within 30 days from today.
