China Square has closed indefinitely. The closure comes a day after the enterprise announced that it would be closing down on Sunday for strategy evaluation.
The closure comes days after Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria declared that China Square would have to be shut down for taking customers from businesses around downtown Nairobi.
“We, China Square Limited, regret to inform you that we will continue to close down for further notice. We understand that this may cause inconvenience to some of our customers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” China Square announced.
The business said that it had shut down over numerous issues that include public safety and shortage of tills.
“As a supermarket, we are unable to handle the high volume of traffic, which has become a severe concern for the public safety of all our customers, we are arranging more security guards onsite,” the enterprise said.
“Long queues have given our customers bad shopping experiences, and we are doing our best to resolve these issues within the closing down period.”
China Square further said that there had been misleading statements and overrating by customers on the internet.
