Emmanuel Ng'etich: Businessman who turned old plane into Sh. 8 million Club 034

Popularly known as the Pride of Kajiado, Club 034 is one of the famous booze joint in Kitengela, Kajiado county.

Founded in 2020, Ngetich stole the idea of starting an entertainment joint inside a plane after a business trip to Thailand.

He says he was fascinated to see an entertainment and shopping hub that had been designed around a grounded Lockheed TriStar jet at Chang Chui. This jet had been flying for Thai Sky Airlines before it was grounded in Don Mueang.

This inspired him a lot, and he came back home with the idea of starting a replica of what he had seen. To him, he decided to open an entertainment joint to change the country’s entertainment scene. He would then hear of Kenya Airways’ bid, which he went ahead to try to actualize his dream.

Kenya Airways sold him the grounded Boeing 720 aircraft, which had remained parked at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for several years. He bought the plane at Ksh 1 million shillings.

The plane was transported through highways in Nairobi to its final destination in Kitengela, sparking a debate online on its purpose and how it was acquired.

During an exclusive interview with K24 Television in 2020, the engineer who designed the restaurant revealed that it cost  Ksh 8 million. This involved the transportation of the aircraft from JKIA to Kitengela, which was more than its buying price, as well as the refurbishment of the plane, including seats, painting, and the overall ambience.

The plane is able to accommodate up to 100 clients. It has the VVIP section in the cockpit, the VIP section in business class, and the regular section in the economy. Upon entry is a red carpet welcoming guests, and one is accorded the chance to feel like they are embarking or alighting from a plane.

The kitchen area still operates with the same trollies that were used to serve while the plane was airborne. Waitresses dress like air hostesses to give customers an onboard feeling, with cool music emanating from the interior of the plane.

Just like in a plane, party-makers seeking to spend their time in Club 034 are required to book tickets online and check on availability. The customers are then issued with a “boarding pass” on entry before being ushered to their seats. Other customers pay on arrival, but this depends on the availability of the seats.

Unlike in other entertainment joints where customers walk out after they are done with their day’s affairs, checking out at Club 034 is also done online so that someone else can reserve the seat. The minimum booking price for Monday to Thursday is Ksh 3,000 and Ksh 5,000 on weekends.

The club does not allow dancing inside the plane. Since it opened its doors, Club 034 is arguably one of the best entertainment joints in Kitengela. It offers one of the best nyama choma in town, and people can enjoy their favorite wine, whiskey, or beer.
