Waihiga Mwaura Quits Citizen TV after 14 Years, Set to Join BBC

Citizen Tv presenter Waihiga Mwaura has announced his exit from the Royal Media Services-backed Citizen Tv after 14 years.

In a statement on his official Twitter account, Waihiga said he would be joining the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as the Focus on Africa presenter.

The Newsnight host confirmed that he would serve his last day on Tuesday, May 2.

“After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has ended. My next stop is BBC News (BBCAfrica), specifically Focus on Africa.

“I’ll share more details soon, but in the meantime, see you on my last episode of #Newsnight at 9:00 pm on Citizen TV,” Waihiga stated.

At the time of his exit, Waihiga was the Multimedia managing editor at Citizen TV. He joined Royal Media Services in 2009, where he worked as a sports anchor for seven years.

He later landed a role as a presenter on the Power Breakfast Show, Citizen Weekend and the Zinduka Show.

He has won multiple awards, including the CNN Multichoice Award in 2012, the BBC World News 2018 Komla Dumor and the 2015 Mo Amin Africa Awards.

The news of his exit was also announced by BBC’s Alice Muthengi, who confirmed his new assignment at BBC Africa.
