The Henley Passport Index, in its 2023 global passport ranking, indicates that Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria passports are the worst to hold in 2023.
The three countries have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 30 or fewer countries. Afghanistan passport allows holders visa-free entry to 27 destinations, while Iraq and Syria passport allows holders visa-free entry to 29 and 30 destinations, respectively.
The global passport ranking for 2023 was conducted based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority, or IATA, which ranks the world’s passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
Singapore passport emerged as the most powerful in the world, with visa-free entry to 192 destinations out of 227 in the world. Germany, Italy, and Spain tied in second place, with their citizens being able to visit 190 global destinations.
