David Mugonyi has been appointed as the new Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya. Mugonyi will now replace Ezra Chiloba who resigned from his position weeks after he was suspended by the Communications Authority board.
Mugonyi was appointed to the position by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo. Until his appointment to the new role, Mugonyi was the head of Presidential Communication Service, a role that was widely seen as a duplication of the State House Spokesperson role that is held by former too television news anchor Hussein Mohamed.
Mugonyi has been serving under President Ruto since 2013 when the president held the position of deputy president. He served as the communications secretary and spokesperson.
“Reference is made to the above and a letter from the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service (Ref: SH/GM/22) dated 19th December 2023 (endorsed) conveying approval for the appointment of Mr David Mugonyi as the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya,” CS Owalo said.
“You may now proceed and take appropriate action to formalize the appointment.”
