Kindiki, Wahome, Soipan made Sh. 346 million in 21 months as Ruto CSes

Three Cabinet Secretary nominees who were retained by President William Ruto in his new cabinet made a combined Sh. 346 million in the 21 months they held the role of CS.

The three are Professor Kithure Kindiki, Alice Wahome and Soipan Tuya. They were the first batch of nominees to be vetted by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments.

In his individual vetting session, Kithure Kindiki who held the position of Interior Minister revealed that he made Sh. 150 million in the less than two year period he was the Cabinet Secretary for Interior. His wealth increased from Sh. 544 million to Sh. 694 million.

Alice Wahome who was the CS in charge of Lands saw her wealth increase by Sh. 109 million from Sh. 218 million to Sh. 327 million. On her part, Soipan Tuya who was the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Forestry had he wealth rise from Sh. 156 million to Sh. 243 million.

According to Wahome, her wealth had increased by over Sh. 100 million due to the appreciation of her properties. She further claimed that the amount of wealth she declared was a combination of both her personal wealth and her husband’s.

Appreciation in value of assets was also the reason Soipan Tuya have for the growth of her net worth. “It is largely from the appreciation of assets, private business, and one asset acquired within Nairobi,” Ms Soipan said.

On his part, Professor Kindiki said that his wealth had grown due to his investments and businesses.

“My active law firm and various business ventures have contributed to my net worth of Sh. 694 million, up from Sh. 544 million when I took office. I assure the committee that I have not conducted any business with the government,” he said.

Kindiki, Wahome, and Soipan are three among a host of Cabinet Secretaries who have been reappointed by President Ruto under what has been termed as a broad-based government that incorporates the ODM party that is led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
