President Ruto visited Germany to discuss employment opportunities for Kenya’s youthful workforce. This led to the signing of a Comprehensive Migration & Mobility Partnership agreement between the Kenyan government and Germany.
During an interview on KTN’s Spice FM, Diaspora Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu shared various methods for Kenyans to apply for foreign job opportunities through websites.
She said that in Germany, the President facilitated meetings with recruitment agencies from both Kenya and Germany to explore potential employment prospects.
The PS described the deal as a mutually beneficial win-win agreement in the exportation of labour to create synergies between the two markets.
“We have a surplus of particularly youthful talent and on the other side, you have German companies badly needing labour.”
“Because of the situation, we have an extremely young population with 19.5 as the median age, which means we have a proper pyramid. Germany has an inverted pyramid with a median age of 44,” she disclosed.
She added that as the baby boomer generation in Germany retires or nears retirement, the country is expected to face a skilled labor shortage of 2-3 million workers in the coming years.
This opens up opportunities for Kenyans to contribute to the workforce while pursuing careers that match their goals.
One of the websites she listed where Kenyans can get jobs is makeitingermany.com where they can get jobs. PS Njogu noted that the website is managed by the Bundesregierung (German Federal Government) and offers plenty of options, mostly in the private sector.
She urged Kenyans to take full advantage of these opportunities and also handed out two other websites that Kenyans can check out; deutschland.de and hub4africa.bayern which could help address many skilled yet unemployed Kenyans’ job needs.

Once job opportunities are found on the website, the next step is verifying qualifications, which relies heavily on personal initiative. The PS stated that one could also work with a Kenyan recruiter who often list these job opportunities on neaims.go.ke.
Roseline Njogu mentioned that around 30,000 Kenyans are currently living and working in Germany. She said that working in Germany not only offers a good job and salary but also provides new experiences and, most importantly, benefits from skills and technology transfer on a Macro level.
“If Diaspora has taught me anything, it’s that many diasporans are constantly looking to go back home. When they will have an opportunity to do that, we hope that we will have built a critical mass of skill and technology, that will start moving here and build our very own automotive industry. Think about what that would mean.”
Njogu acknowledged the criticism directed at the government, with many questioning why they are sending people abroad instead of creating jobs locally.
She explained that this mindset is short-term, while the government’s approach is focused on the long-term game.
“In 40 years, you have an army of people who are trained in creating Germany vehicles which means that immediately you can have that manufacturing moving here. Their hearts will always be at home, always looking to make a difference,” she said.
