As thousands of students from various faculties at the University of Nairobi celebrate their graduation today, a section of students from the School of Business in Lower Kabete will be unable to join in the celebratory occasion.
According to a report by Citizen TV, over 400 students from the School of Business have been left off the graduation list as part of the administration’s efforts to address concerns about fake graduates.
Despite meeting the necessary requirements for both undergraduate and master’s programs, these students have not received a clear explanation for their exclusion.
The affected students reported being told that an audit was underway on the graduation list. However, the process was not finalized in time for the ceremony, leaving them excluded without any clear explanation regarding the purpose or outcome of the audit.
Unverified reports from within the institution suggest that the university conducted the audit to distinguish authentic grades from falsified ones.
“We have parents and friends coming from all over the country to watch us graduate and now they can’t…So we have to suffer the consequences because of two individuals who were illegally put in the graduation list,” one student lamented in the report.
The students, who had already received congratulatory messages and collected their graduation gowns, now find themselves at odds with the school administration.
Frustrated by the situation, they have threatened to disrupt the ceremony in a bid to demand accountability for their time and efforts at the institution.
“We will explore every avenue available to us including further peaceful demonstrations and legal redress,” another student claimed.
