A 35-year-old Kenyan woman has reportedly been arrested at India’s Chennai Airport by Air Traffic law enforcement. The woman in question was caught in possession of Sh. 215 million worth of cocaine inside her body.
The cocaine was packed in capsules that, upon retrieval, weighed up to 1.8kg. She arrived in India after connecting from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Customs had received certain intelligence regarding a drug smuggling operation and upon her arrival, she was brought in for questioning. The suspect allegedly dodged questions from authorities and her stomach seemed strange.
A body scan was conducted on the woman, which confirmed that she had several foreign objects in her stomach.
“Based on specific intelligence, a Kenyan female passenger who arrived in Chennai from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines on December 7th, was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit,” read the official statement from the customs department.

“On search of her person, she egested 90 cylindrical hyperdense objects with medical assistance. These objects tested positive for cocaine, a psychotropic substance covered under the NDPS Act, 1985.”
It reportedly took 2 days for the 35-year-old to egest all the 90 capsules at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where she received assistance in removing the trafficked consignment.
She told the Indian authorities that she was working for an international drug trafficking ring as a smuggler, eventually leading to her arrest.
