Peter Wangai charged with defrauding investors millions in property deal

Peter Wangai

Peter Wangai Muriithi, the man behind the Goldenscape scam has finally been charged. Wangai has been charged with obtaining millions of money from unsuspecting investors through false pretense.

While appearing before chief magistrate Martha Mutuku, Wangai denied a total of 21 counts. Although Wangai was sued for defrauding a few of his investors, the total number of investors who lost money in his scheme is far bigger. It is suspected that unsuspecting investors could have lost billions of money. Wangai is accused of luring people to invest in greenhouses that were to be set up in among other areas, Ol Kalou and Nyahururu in Nyandarua county.

The charges show that Wangai has been accused of obtaining Sh. 1.04 million from Eunice Mosiara between January 31 and September 19, 2019. He received this money at his Goldenscape offices at Kimathi House in Nairobi for three greenhouses and falsely pretended that he was in position to pay her a return of Sh. 275,000 for each greenhouse after every six months.

Peter Wangai denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh. 2 million. The court further directed that he deposits his passport with the court, this after the victim’s lawyer argued that the accused was a flight risk. The matter will be mentioned on April 1, 2020.
