Is the ‘newer’ 2013 Toyota Fielder any better than the older model?

2013 Toyota Fielder

2013 Toyota Fielder: The 2011 Fielder is denoted by the model code NZE-141G. The 2012/2013 Fielder is denoted by the model code NZE-161G.

However the third digit may change with regard to whether the Fielder is 2WD or 4WD. Apart from the looks, the other most notable upgrade is the introduction of a hybrid series. The Hybrid series are noted with the model code NKE-161G or NKE-165G if its 4WD.

The Hybrid versions come with added equipment like Vehicle Approach Notification System which warns pedestrians of the approaching vehicle since Hybrids are quiet and pedestrians may not hear them. The system can be turned on and off.

They also come with a collision warning system, automatic headlamps and a 4.2 inch screen on the instrument cluster.(Please note that these features are on the Hybrid versions only)

The 2012/2013 Fielder still comes with 2 engine options namely the most common 1NZ-FE which has received a few updates and the 1800cc 2ZR option.

The biggest update on the 1NZ-FE is an electric, belt-less water pump. The electric water pump is more efficient compared to the mechanical one. It controls coolant flow rate to a precise level so as to improve fuel efficiency. This electric pump reduces the load on the engine and has resulted to slightly higher power figures and on paper, it is said that it could possibly extend engine life by reducing stress.

The NZE 161 also comes with and EGR emission control system that recirculates gas. The suspension has also been improved for a softer and more comfortable ride. The electric power steering has also been calibrated for improved handling and sensitivity. The newer fielder just like the previous model still runs on an intelligent CVT Transmission.
