High Court judges Aggrey Muchelule, Juma Chitembwe arrested

Aggrey Muchelule Arrested: Two High Court judges were on Thursday afternoon arrested. The judges, Aggrey Muchelule and Said Juma Chitembwe were arrested over allegations that they were part of a corruption scandal.

Muchelule who is currently attached to Milimani Family Division was nabbed on Thursday afternoon by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Muchelule is one of the six judges that President Uhuru Kenyatta refused to appoint to the position of Court of Appeal judge.

A report that was published by K24 said that a detectives involved in the arrest had been pursuing a case in which Muchelule is a key suspect for months. “He is a man of interest in a matter that detectives have been pursuing for months now. More shall be communicated with time,”the media house quoted.

The arrests come at a time when the executive and the judiciary have been at loggerheads. The executive, led by President Kenyatta has been lamenting that the judiciary is riddled with corruption. On the other hand, though, the judiciary has been accusing the presidency of attempting to control its operations through intimidation.

The bad blood between the judiciary and the executive escalated a few months ago following the ruling on the BBI process which is being spearheaded by President Kenyatta.
