Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has been elected as the chairperson of the Governors’ council.
Governor Waiguru defeated Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku. The election was held in Mombasa during the on-going Governors’ retreat.
Waiguru will now chair the Intergovernmental Budget Executive Council that will be headed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ms. Waiguru will also oversee a mechanism for consultation amongst County Governments and facilitating capacity building for Governors.
In addition, she will provide leadership in consideration of reports from other intergovernmental forums on national and county interests.
“I do not want to be the proverbial man who walks around with a beautiful lady but never proposes to her and becomes mad when she is taken by another man he starts to feel bad. I declare my interest in the CoG chair,” said Waiguru.
