Car transfer, listing and issuing of log books to occur in hours from next month

The registration and transfers of vehicles in the country are set to happen within a day from mid April. This follows the move to take the two activities online.

Once on the portal, a user will be asked to create an individual profile by logging in using their PINs and enter the chassis number. If one wants to self allocate, one will pick the number plate of their choice if not, the system will automatically choose one. Users will also be given an option of where they want to pick their log book and number plate, either in Kisumu, Nairobi or Mombasa.

Currently, registration and transfers take one to two weeks. acquiring a log book will now take 10 minutes from the previous between one to six months. Getting a duplicate log book will take a day from the current two to four weeks. Number plates cost Sh2,700 but those who want specific ones allocated to them, pay an extra charge.
