Government in need of casual workers to work on UK farms, how to apply

Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has revealed that the government is targeting to airlift 1,000 Kenyans to undertake various casual jobs in the United Kingdom (UK).

According to the PS, some 400 youths have already landed seasonal jobs in UK farms as the government steps to create job opportunities for Kenyans abroad.

“In the last 6 months, over 400 Kenyan youth with qualifications in agriculture have taken up seasonal opportunities in the UK under this partnership,” Njogu revealed.

“Another 1,000 or so are expected to benefit in 2024. Grateful for the support of SD TVET, SD Youth and Youth Fund, SDLabour and SD public Service,’’ she added.

She urged Kenyans interested in working on the farms to take advantage of the opportunity.

The casual workers are selected from various institutions in Kenya through a collaboration between the United Kingdom and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.

“The program involves Kenyan youths working on agricultural farms in the UK under the supervision of experts, and subsequently returning home to invest in similar local projects,” Youth Fund speaks of the program.

Interested candidates can apply through HOPS Labour Solutions Limited, an agency that deals with the recruitment, migration, and supply of seasonal workers to employers in the UK from across the world.

To be eligible, one must be aged between 18 and 45 years and must have a valid passport with at least one year before expiry.

Candidates must also show willingness to come back after the project which lasts six months. No fee is required for the application.

Graduates from the National Youth Service (NYS) can also apply for jobs through the Service.
