Catherine Nyokabi’s killer in three suicide attempts

Evans Karani, the man who confessed brutally killing Catherine Nyokabi, has been attempting suicide ever since he committed the murder.

According to reports, had attempted suicide on three separate occasions after the chilling incident. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer investigating Catherine Nyokabi’s murder, Richard Mwaura Karani confessed to unsuccessfully attempting to take his own life after he killing 25-year-old Nyokabi.

According to the DCI, Karani first attempted suicide by wrapping a piece of clothe around his neck, which he tied to the roof so as to suspend from it. However, he abandoned that method for another.

On the second attempt, Karani jumped in front of an approaching vehicle on Thika Superhighway, but due to traffic build up, he did not sustain serious injuries as the vehicle was moving at a relatively low speed. His third stab at death occurred recently, when he attempted to drown in a Kiambu dam.

Karani shocked many when he made a virtual court appearance on Monday, April, 19. Karani asked the judge if it would be possible for him to be given a speedy sentencing so that he could go to jail. “I’d like to ask that be sentenced and sent to jail as fast as possible so that I can begin serving my time,” Karani told Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga.
