The four commissioners who have been staging an internal revolt at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission have changed tune.
This is after the ruling of the Supreme Court on the 2022 presidential results.
“We also state here that we agree with the statement of the Chairperson of the Commission which was sent to the media yesterday. We wish to reiterate that we stand by rule of Law and Statutes that promote the effectiveness of the work of the Commission,” they said.
The four commissioners were led by Juliana Cherera who is the vice chairperson of the IEBC.
“After the Supreme Court of Kenya made her ruling yesterday the 5th of September,2022 on the Presidential election petition, particularly with regard to our role as Commissioners. We wish to convey our appreciation to the Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya. and confirm that we respect their collective decisions,” they said.
They had accused IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati of running a one-man show at the IEBC and twisting in favour of president-elect, William Ruto. Cherera and the team had accused Chebukati of failing to account for some 142,000 votes in a wrong mathematical calculation that subjected her to nationwide criticism.
This accusation was then changed to allegations of hacking and dictatorship in affidavits that were presented before the Supreme Court.

In response, Chebukati had sworn an affidavit to the Supreme Court, in which he stated that the four commissioners had attempted to tamper with the presidential results in a bid to enforce a run off between Dr. Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
