Commuter train to charge Sh. 500 from CBD to JKIA

Commuter Train CBD JKIA: The new railway link from the city centre to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been launched. Following the launch, Kenyans will now pay Sh. 500 for a trip from the Nairobi CBD to the JKIA.

This fee was for the KIA Express route  was announced by the Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Maingi. Speaking during the launch, the cabinet secretary for transport James Macharia said that the new railway link will now help Kenyans to avoid traffic snarl ups that often characterize Mombasa Road on their way to the airport. The passengers will be dropped at the Embakasi Railway Station from where a courtesy bus will pick them and ferry them to JKIA.

“Commuters will be able to catch a train from the Nairobi Railway Station up to the Embakasi Village Railway Station after which they will then be ferried through the Airport South Road which has been dedicated to the Nairobi Commuter Rail Bus also referred to as the Bus Rapid Transit Vehicles,” CS Macharia said.

He further said that travellers will undergo numerous security checks at various points to access the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses heading to JKIA. The launch of the JKIA Express Service comes a few weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the commuter trains. Commuter Train CBD JKIA.
