David Ndii, the chairperson of the Presidential Council of Economic Advisers, is one of the ‘big men’ in Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Administration.
The celebrated author, economist, and columnist is known for his wide usage of social media platforms such as X to explain matters of public finances.
Born in Kiambu County, Ndii attended Nyahururu High School for his O-Level before proceeding to Kangaru school in Embu County.
He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Nairobi, and a PHD from Oxford University.
Prior to his appointment to his current role in October 2022, Ndii had worked in several high-profile jobs in Kenya.

He has worked as an economist for the World Bank, a policy adviser for the governments of Kenya and Rwanda, and a public finance expert on the Kenyan constitutional review process.
He was an advisor on the economic recovery of the country during the late Mwai Kibaki regime. He took the same role in NASA and for some years he was the chief strategist for the National Super Alliance.
Additionally, Ndii has worked for Equity Bank as a chief economist and has also worked as the managing director of Africa Economics.
He also co-founded and served as chief executive of the Institute of Economic Affairs, Kenya’s first economics think tank.
He also taught at the University of Nairobi and wrote for the Saturday Nation as a columnist. He is married to Mwende Gatabaki and they are blessed with children.
Mwende is the daughter of Peter Gatabaki, the senior chief of Thakwa who is also former Githunguri Member of Parliament.
