Dennis Wanjala: Breakdown of how I built my 4 roomed house with Sh. 100,000 only

Dennis Wanjala, popularly known on Twitter as BookTen8, proudly shared his latest achievement on social media.

The graphic designer from Kibichori village in Chwele recently completed building a simple yet elegant house in his hometown at a remarkably low cost. He said the entire project only cost him Sh. 100,000 to complete.

Prior to this achievement, he lived in a single room that was constructed by his father whenever he visited the village. He celebrates this small milestone, appreciating his effort to build a small home.

“I used to live in a small single-room house (keja) that my dad built for me after high school. That structure, as it appears, costs Sh. 80,000. For finishing, another Sh. 20,000,” Wanjala revealed.

Taking to Twitter, Wanjala posted a picture of his humble abode.

“This is the house that I built with my own money. Many will criticise but to me, it’s a win. This is what I could afford,” he captioned.

He disclosed that he constructed his house himself after saving some money from his customer care job. Currently, he works at a health facility in Nairobi.

Wanjala presently pays rent at an apartment in Nairobi but finds solace in having a place to stay whenever he visits his village.

He has explored various side hustles in line with many Kenyans, including operating a barber shop, creating content, and engaging in brand influencing.

He shared that it took him just one week to build his house, with the only requirement being that his finances were in order.

For the construction of his new house, Wanjala purchased 40 iron sheets at a cost of Sh. 1,000 each, one metal door for Sh. 6,000, and five metal windows for Sh. 17,500. In addition to these major expenses, he also incurred miscellaneous costs of approximately Sh. 16,500.

He bought one metal door that cost him Sh. 6,000 and 5 metal windows for Sh. 17,500. Miscellaneous expenses were around Sh. 16,500.

“The other funds went to nails, labour and food. I had planted my own trees and added a few for roofing and sides. Other miscellaneous costs took Sh. 16,500,” he added.
