Embakasi IEBC Returning Officer, Daniel Musyoka was found to have been murdered in Kilombero forest, 2km outside Loitoktok town, Kajiado.
Musyoka was reported by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati to have gone missing from the East African School of Aviation tallying center on August 11th, at around 9:45 am.
“Musyoka’s family and the commission have been trying to reach him without success. A report of a missing person has been made at Embakasi police station,” Chebukati said on Monday.
The family of Daniel Musyoka alleges that he was killed after failing to take a bribe from those that murdered him. Musyoka’s sister and her husband, Ann Mbolu and Jackson Muimi said that he was a God-fearing man who never fell for human threats.
They characterized him as a hardworking and truthful person who kept no enemies.
“We know who Daniel is, he cannot be compromised by anyone. I suspect that someone must have attempted to bribe him to change the numbers in the just-concluded elections, and he refused,” said Muimi.
Ann Mbolu (sister) said that before his death, Daniel was the leader and provider of the family, despite him being younger than her.
“He is the most honest person we have in the family. I am married in Machakos and Musyoka was also able to provide for my husband and me whenever we were in need. He had no enemies, everywhere.” She said.

“We are just praying to God to guide the family he has left behind. He was the only breadwinner in the entire family.”
Police reports indicate that Musyoka died a painful death after his body was found naked, dumped in a valley at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, with clear evidence of struggle and torture before succumbing.
Kajiado South Police commander Kiprop Ruto said that the DCI had taken over the matter to find his killers and deliver justice to Musyoka and his family.
“We have handed over this case to DCI and hope that the killers will be brought to book the soonest,” he said.
A sleuth in the DCI says that Daniel Musyoka, 53 years old, received an anonymous call before disappearing. The tallying center was the last place he was seen alive and his electoral colleagues can attest to that.
“Currently, the phone records are part of the focus as this investigation goes on.” Said the detective who sought anonymity.
“It will be important to know who is the person who made the call that saw the returning officer leave his work station never to be seen again until his body was found this week.” He added.
The DCI has established that his phone’s signal was last detected in Mihang’o, Utawala. They suspect Musyoka must have boarded a vehicle from the tallying center to the location, 12.4 km away before his cell phone was switched off.
His colleagues described him as a humble, quiet man who was always alert and insisted everything is done in the right way.
