Eli Khumundu, an employee who, together with a colleague, stole Sh2 million from Langata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o last year, now says he did not benefit from the money.
Eli, who was rehired by the legislator, said his colleague persuaded him to steal from their employer. Although he resisted at first, he changed his mind after seeing his colleague walking away with the cash that was left in one of the cars they were cleaning.
“I refused, but then after some time, I saw the gate was open, and he (the colleague) had run away with the cash, and our images were plastered on social media that we had stolen the cash,” Eli explained.
From the amount, Eli was given a share of Sh500,000 but later discovered the amount was Sh2 million and not Sh1 million as his colleague told him.
“I did not benefit from the money. Part of the sum I used to bribe people when I was on the run, and the rest I brought back,” he explained.
In June last year, Jalang’o announced that two of his employees, Eli Khumundu and Morrison Litiema, had fled with some cash that was in his car. It was later alleged that the amount lost was Sh2.5 million.

“Eli and Litiema are on the run. This morning, they stole money from a car they were washing at home. Their phones are off, and they are running with their families. If you see them, please report to the nearest police station. A reward of 100k for any information leading to their arrest,” said Jalan’go.
A few months later, the legislator said that he had forgiven his employees, although he vowed not to rehire them.
“Eli and Litiema stole money from the house. Personally, I had forgiven them and even wanted to bring them back to work, but the community where we live, they cannot be allowed around even if I wanted to,’’ he said.
However, Jalang’o said that Eli kept pestering him to help him financially even after stealing from him and fleeing to his home in Bungoma.
Speaking moments after getting his job back, Eli revealed that he regretted his actions and would never jeopardize his job and reputation again. His colleague, whom they worked as ground managers, is yet to be rehired.
