Don’t buy fish from Naivasha roadside hawkers, government tells Kenyans

Don’t buy fish from Naivasha roadside hawkers! This warning has been issued by the government through the Ministry of Health.

The government has termed the hawking of fish along the Naivasha-Nairobi a health hazard.

“It is shocking to see the number of people involved in the illegal sale of fish and this might lead to food-borne illnesses,” the Ministry of Health was quoted by local daily newspaper, Daily Nation on Tuesday.

“We cannot even be sure where the fish has been sourced from. The unhygienic environment, notwithstanding.”

In 2016, the County Government of Nakuru had banned the hawking of fish along the highway. Through the department of fisheries and public health, the county outlawed the trade mainly in Naivasha terming it as unhealthy and illegal.

Loaf of bread hits Sh. 60. Half litre of milk now past Sh. 80

Over the past few years, hawking of fish along section of the highway is now a booming business employing tens of youths.
