Gilbert Langat is a Kenyan entrepreneur, computer scientist, and founder of Kimolakira Solutions, an electrical and electronics dealer in Kilgoris town, Narok county.
In an interview, the businessman revealed his passion for dealing with electronic products fuelled his decision to venture into the business.
In addition, the shortage of electronics in the region was also a contributor as dealers sold their products at an exorbitant price that was unaffordable for some consumers.
”What inspired me is the Gap that was there to be filled and the urge for Electricals and Electronics business. The target market was ideal because shops dealing with Electricals products were few and the prices were exaggerated in that area with poor customer service. Also, I actually wanted to deal with unperishable goods,’’ he says.
His business, nestled at the heart of Kilgoris town, offers various services, including the sale, installation, and repair of Electricals and Electronics. Langat also offers electrical quotations and sells Phone and Computer accessories and laptops.
”We offer Quality and a variety of products; we sell at affordable prices as compared to our competitors; we do Electricals Quotation for free and delivery for free. Electricals Installation Consultations. Also we have good and excellent customer service,’’ he adds.

Being among the pioneers of the electronics business in Kilgoris, Langat admits the business has had its highs and lows. He notes that among the things he struggled with was dealing with customers and adjusting to market demands.
The businessman further shares that to succeed in entrepreneurship, one should invest in good customer service as well as adapt to market demand very fast. Langat also shares that good branding plays a big role in the success of a business.
”Starting a business is a challenging experience and learning process. Dealing with a range of clients isn’t a joke; some can test your customer care skills, and some are harsh. Some of the things I learn also is about market Demands changes from time to time, and you have to adapt very fast,’’ he says.
”Also, it helps you refine your products and services to fit real needs. I also noticed that good branding is good in every business. With time also you grow your network and sales increases with time,’’ adds Langat.

In 5 years’ time, he projects that his business will have the capacity to import electrical and electronics products direct from China, Dubai, and the UK as well as open branches in various parts of the country.
