Abraham Leteipa Kaeno, a 29-year-old university graduate from Kilgoris, has revealed he earns at least Ksh68,000 per week from online jobs.
In the revelation made by President William Ruto via social media on March 17, 2024, the Head of State indicated that Kaeno has been making at least 500 US dollars a week through Konza Digital Skills, translating to about Sh68000.
He encouraged young people to leverage on technology and the digital space to secure meaningful employment.
“Abraham Leteipa Kaeno is a powerful story of how the youth can effectively use technology for self-employment.
Through the Konza Digital Skills, the 29-year-old university graduate from Kilgoris is making an average of $500 (Sh68,000) a week from online jobs,” Ruto stated.
This comes days after Remotasks, an online gigs platform, closed shop in Kenya after another middle-aged man revealed how he earned through the platform.
Former HR Manager earning Sh500,000 monthly from remote jobs
Speaking to Ruto, Brian Kipchumba, a student from Kaiboi National Polytechnic demonstrated how Remotasks works and the amount he had earned from it.
Kipchumba revealed the platform had paid him Sh45,000 for the period between December 26, 2023 and January 16 2024.
“I have been working online since December 26, 2023, until now. As you can see, the total amount of money I have earned is US$284 (Ksh45,000) minus the taxes you get, like Ksh40,000.”Kipchumba stated.
“I can confirm to Kenyans through my account that whatever you have been saying is a reality. I can say that online jobs pay well,” he added.
Barely two months after the revelation, Remotasks announced its exit from the Kenyan market, leaving thousands of youths jobless.
The global AI company based in Germany blocked all Kenyan users with active accounts from accessing the site.
Screenshots shared by social media users who have been working on the platform showed an email from Remotask stating that the platform would no longer be accessible to Kenyans as of March 8th, 2024.
“We are reaching out with an important announcement regarding Remotasks operations in your location. We are discontinuing operations in your current location effective immediately,” the email read in part.
“As part of this change, you have been off-boarded from your current project. You will receive payments associated with your work completed via the payment account set up on your profile,” it added.
