How educated is Mike Sonko? This is a question that many people often wonder. For a start, the former Nairobi Governor is a controversial figure.

He has a shady past which has in the past cast doubts about his true academic qualifications. Here is what he has stated publicly as his education profile.

Sonko was born in the coast region in 1975. He is the son of Mzee Kivanguli. He attended Kikowani Primary School.

Mike Sonko then studied in Kwale High School and completed his Secondary Education in 1992. He claims that his grades were as follows:

After secondary school, he proceeded to the Unity College of Professional Studies in January 2008 where he pursued a diploma in Sales and Market. He graduated in December  2010.

Between 2013 and 2017, Sonko joined Kenya Methodist University for a degree in Business Administration. He graduated with Second Class Upper Division in 2015. He took this degree in order to qualify to contest for a gubernatorial seat.

In August 2019, Sonko was allegedly awarded an honorary degree of excellence by the European Digital University (EDU).

Sonko was the first Senator for Nairobi under the 2010 constitution of Kenya. He was elected in 2013. In 2017, Sonko was elected as the second Governor of Nairobi after defeating Evans Kidero who was the first Governor of the capital city.

Sonko was later impeached. In 2022, he launched a bid for the Mombasa Governor’s seat on a Wiper party ticket.
