Joan Thuo, a career coach, believes in the possibility of landing your dream job within 30 days by following the following steps:
Step 1: Be Specific
Firstly, she says you need to be very specific about the job you are applying for. You can visit job boards such as Summit Recruitment, Corporate Staffing, Brighter Monday, Fuzu, and Linkedin. Here, note the jobs that fit your strengths, skills, passions, and education.
Joan advises copying and pasting these jobs to a Word document for easy access. You can also save them on your laptop or phone. She says this reduces the risk of forgetting where you saw the job.
Step 2: Write Down Where You Want to Work
After job boards, check with any organization you’d want to work with. Joan recommends listing all places you would like to work for. Be it Safaricom, Mastercard Foundation, UAP, Britam, IBM, Microsoft, or Google, write them down. Don’t self-reject by saying you can’t work for a particular company.

Step 3: Design a CV, LinkedIn Profile, and Cover Letter
After spotting dream jobs, your next step should be to craft a good Curriculum Vitae, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. The career coach says there are two types of Cvs, a Modern CV, and an ATS CV.
A modern CV is required when sending your job application to a particular email address. On the other hand, the ATS CV is needed if you send your job application via an online portal.
Your LinkedIn profile is also important, as the platform has thousands of job vacancies. If your profile is horrible, no one is likely to accept your application.
Step 4: Send Applications
Once you’ve sorted your Curriculum Vitae, LinkedIn Profile, and cover letter, it’s time to apply for the jobs. Here, the more applications you send, the higher your chances of getting recruited.
According to the career coach, for every 50 job applications, you can expect at least five calls. However, these applications need to be accurate. It would be useless to send out a thousand applications with an outdated Curriculum Vitae or Cover Letter.

Also, it’s best to be on the lookout for scams. Most legitimate job boards do not ask for payment at any point in the recruitment process. Also, red flags might arise when you receive offers from an organization you did not apply to.
Step 5: Networking
Besides job boards, Joan recommends networking as an integral part of your job search. When someone recommends you for a job, you stand a higher chance of landing your dream job than if you were to apply online.
Recruiters often consider applications from people they know because they trust colleagues will provide qualified candidates. Consequently, networking goes a very long way in helping you land a job quickly.
Step 6: Polish Up Your Interviewing Skills
If you mess up the interview, it will not matter if you have the best cv, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile. The career coach recommends polishing your interview skills by researching common interview questions, such as: What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do you want this particular job?
This way, you’ll be well on your way to landing your dream job.
