Career profile of new KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Mulongo

The Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury Professor Njuguna Ndung’u has appointed Humphrey Wattanga Mongo as the new Commissioner General for the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Mulongo will assume the KRA Commissioner General position that was previously occupied by James Gethii Mburu. Gethii resigned from the position a few months after the inauguration of President William Ruto.

Mulongo will serve for a period of three years effective August 22, 2023. He has previously worked as a member of the Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) for six years following his appointment on December 31, 2016 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

KRA collects Sh. 155 billion in month of July

Mulongo is an alumni of the Alliance High School. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania, USA and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (cum laude) from Harvard University, USA.

Mulongo has over 15 years’ global experience serving as a business development, corporate finance and transaction adviser to private equity entities, private sector companies, development finance institutions, governments and public organisations.
