Property management business is gaining its rightful position in the real estate industry. Working with landlords, tenants, and a team of reliable contractors all wrapped up with the ability to connect, empathize and be responsive to demanding situation, has kept Mohammed Hussein Mohammed relevant in business.
Sitting on his chair at his office in the heart of Mombasa county, Mohammed recalls his humble beginnings in business and how it propelled him to be his own boss years later.
With an academic background in Business Information Technology (BIT), and an undying love for business, Mohammed ventured into boutique and clothing business back in 2013. But he failed miserably because he never took time to understand the logistics. Yet the business spirit in him never died. Seeing the struggles of real estate billionaires trying to deal with so many parties at ago and make money at the same time, Mohammed realized the need to start an agency that would fill the gap. One attraction of property management as a new business venture is the low barrier to entry and affordable start-up costs. With his little experience and a loan from Uwezo funds, he started Ahmo Property Management Business.
“I make around 150000 shillings a month by working hard every day. This is very promising in my Ahmo Property Management Business, and hopefully the amount will grow in the coming years,” he added.
Marketing vacant units, showing the properties, collecting rent and applications, overseeing maintenance on the properties, getting leases signed, conducting move-in and out inspections, are some of the key responsibilities that Mohammed handles in his fast growing business. As at now, Mohammed boasts of over 100 clients in Mombasa including residential and business premises within Mombasa, Changamwe, Likoni and Bamburi
Mohammed encourages young people to create employment for themselves by taking advantage of microfinance institutions.
“We cannot be all absorbed in the public service, not even the private sector, but the government should assist the youth in accessing various funds intended for them, as well as provide continuous training on how youth can start and manage business,” he said.
