Inside Butita’s multimillion SPM Buzz company

Edwin Butita Shikuku, better known by his stage name Butita, is a jack of all trades in Kenya’s creative industry. He is an actor, emcee, theatre director, scriptwriter, and businessman.

He ignited a social media debate in 2024 after accompanying President William Ruto on a  USA tour, where he met film legends Tyler Perry and Steve Harvey.

Born and raised in Kariobangi and Kasarani constituencies, Butita attended Butere High School in Kakamega County, where he began his comedy. He later pursued a graphic design course, honing his creative skills.

His early career dates back to 2010, when he began his stand-up comedy at Churchill show, marking his entry into the limelight.

The comedian also featured in Kenya’s Biggest Laughs, Churchill Raw, Night of a Thousand Laughs, Nescafe Red Sensation Party, The Hot Seat, Kenya Kona Comedy, Crazy Monday Comedy Night, 3D Comedy and Kids Festival.

In April 2021, Butita unveiled his media company, SPM Buzz, an ultra-modern studio that allows creative content creators to record shows.

“By the grace of GOD, we launched SPM- Stage Presence Media Limited HQ @stagepresenceke which houses SPM Offices and SPM BUZZ STUDIOS @spmbuzzke. Welcome to SPM, the home of creativity where creatives get to write the future. With an excellent team of creatives, we are here to change the entertainment scene by creating more valuable opportunities for creatives who want to live and earn from their ideas,” he wrote.

SPM Buzz studio features a reception desk where guests are warmly received and a café area reserved for creatives.

The company also has a fully furnished boardroom where meetings and key decision-making engagements are hosted.

The studio is fully furnished with lighting, cameras, microphones, Furniture, and Props. It is a functional studio that allows creative content creators to record shows.

Butita who serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the SPM Buzz Company says his company is centred on being real and getting connected with the audience.

“With campus tour we started having gaps, hakuna photographer, hakuna editor, finance…so the team started building up…and it reached a point where I felt like I wanted a tool that can help us communicate, be real, get the right audience and connect with people and that’s where we brought in SPM Buzz,” he said.
