Telecommunications giant Safaricom has brought smiles to its shareholders after recording several bullish days at the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Over the past one week, Safaricom shares have appreciated by close to Sh5 per share.
An analysis by Bizna Kenya shows that on June 3, 2025, Safaricom closed the day’s trading session at an average of Sh20.45 per share from a traded volume of 5.56 million shares. The counter had closed the month of May at an average trading price of Sh20.60 per share, with 3.03 million shares having exchanged hands as at May 30.
Since June 3, the counter has been appreciating almost daily. On June 4, Safaricom shares were selling at Sh20.85 per piece. That day saw a traded volume of just 2.47 million shares.
The counter then cross the Sh21 mark on June 5 when it closed trading at the local bourse with an average of Sh21.05 per share from 1.13 million traded volume.
On Monday June 5, the counter opened day on a high and went on to record a total trading volume of 21.89 million shares. It closed trading at Sh21.30 per share. On June 10, the counter hit a fresh high of Sh22.60 per share with traded volumes of 13.32 million shares.
At the end of the day on June 11, Safaricom touched a high of Sh24.80 during the day’s intra-trading, and settled at an average of Sh23.85 per share, marking a gain of 5.53 percent from the average closing price on June 10. 21.21 million shares were traded on that day.
In the early trading hours of June 12, the counter pushed further to touch a high of Sh25.50 per share, marking a new one year high. The analysis by Bizna Kenya shows that the counter now has a 52-week high of Sh25 per share and a low of Sh14.10 per share.
This means that an investor who took position at the low of Sh14.10 per share had gained Sh11 per share.
The company recently made history as the first company in the East African region to cross the Sh387.7 billion ($3 billion) mark in annual revenue. This milestone was marked in the financial year ended March 31, 2025, in which Safaricom also posted a 10.8 percent growth in net profit to Sh69.8 billion.
Safaricom paid out a total of Sh48.08 billion in dividend to its shareholders for the full year ended March 31 2025, adding a final dividend of Sh0.65 per ordinary share to the interim dividend of Sh0.55 cents per ordinary share that was paid out on or about March 2025.
