The late highly popular Kikuyu musician George Wanjaro’s brother Irungu Njaro has died by suicide. Njaro was found dead at Masinga Dam. His cause of death has been attributed to a Sh. 700,000 debt the singer had accumulated. “We have reliably learnt that the victim had been struggling to repay the loan and it is likely he took his life due to depression,” Mbeere South police boss Gregory Mutiso said.
Reports say that Irungu Njaro died after plunging himself into the dam. His body was discovered about four days after he disappeared from his Kasarani home in Nairobi on July 14.
A vehicle that he had been driving prior to the suicide was discovered abandoned in Kamweri village near Tana River. His body, which was found by residents floating in the dam was taken to Embu Referral Hospital mortuary.

The Wanjaro family hit the headlines for the wrong reasons after the death of George Wanjaro in 2007. The family was accused by George Wanjaro’s wife, Maureen Wanjaro of disinheriting her and taking away all her sources of livelihood after the death of her husband.
