Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the largest bank in Kenya by assets, has, over the years, been synonymous with sports excellence in the country.
From athletics, football, and golf to chess, rugby, and motorsport, KCB has not only nurtured talents but also elevated the country’s sporting landscape.
Through its support, the bank has produced stars who have represented the country in various tournaments locally, regionally, and internationally.
In the recently concluded WRC Safari Rally, KCB injected Sh209 million into the iconic motorsports held in Naivasha.
KCB Head of Integrated Marketing and Communications Nkatha Mutungi revealed that out of the sponsorship monies, around Sh17 million was directed to the support of four local drivers: Nikhil Sachania, Evans Kavisi, Tinashe Gatimu, and Karan Patel.
Of the four, two drivers, Evans Kavisi and Tinashe Gatimu, were Kenyans, highlighting KCB’s dedication to promoting local talent.
While Gatimu was making her debut as part of the KCB racing team, Kavisi was bouncing back to rallying after a year-long hiatus.
“Bringing back Kavisi and then also onboarding Tinashe was important for us to also support a lot more local talent, because I think these are people who have what it takes. Tinashe, easily in the next two years, is going to be probably the hottest driver,” Nkatha remarked.
KCB Group beats Equity Group by Sh13 billion in full year net profit race
KCB has so far invested Sh2.3 billion in motorsports in the past two decades, highlighting its unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and elevating Kenya’s standing as a premier motorsports destination.
“We’ve been with Rally since 2003, and we’ve worked with a lot of local drivers. Our dream is to see more of them participating and actually participating at higher levels within WRC,’’ Nkatha noted.
The Bank is also keen on entrenching the sustainability agenda into motorsports, as a way of taking care of the Planet and the People.
During the 2025 Safari rally, KCB planted 3,000 trees, demonstrating its commitment to environmental conservation.
“Planting trees is big for the brand, just in terms of our contribution towards supporting climate action initiatives. So you know, part of the big agenda is to plant more trees within the organization, but for this particular rally circuit, we put in a target of 3,000 trees, which we’ve achieved,” Nkatha added.
Besides motorsport, KCB’s support for other sports, including rugby and chess, can’t go unnoticed.
KCB Rugby Club stands as a beacon of success in Kenya, having won various prestigious titles, including the prestigious Kenya Cup a record eight times, the Enterprise Cup four times, the National Sevens Circuit on four occasions, and an incredible ten Impala Floodlit titles.
Through KCB, Rugby stars such as Andrew Amonde, Samuel Asati, Vincent Onyala, and Festus Shiasi have been produced and their families elevated in line with the lender’s purpose: For People. For Better.
