The Kenya Police Service has often been seen as a haven for uneducated people due to the low minimum grade of D+ that recruits are required to have in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.
However, this is just a fallacy, as some of the officers in the police service are highly educated with remarkable academic achievements.
One such officer is Inspector Kennedy Njuguna Muchoki, the current Garissa Township Base Commander.
Born and raised in Murang’a, Njuguna boasts an impressive academic performance, having scored an A- in his KCSE exam.
His dream to serve in the public sector led him to pursue a degree in Criminology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), laying the foundation for who he is today.
He joined the Kenya Police Service in 2017, graduating from the Kenya Police Training College (Kiganjo) in 2018.

He later became a constable in Kakamega County, where he served in the Anti-Crime Branch before being transferred to Bungoma County, where he continued his service until his promotion to Inspector.
Njuguna was later posted to Malindi Police Station as the Officer Commanding Anti-Crime Branch (OC Crime) where he played a critical role in the high-profile Operation Okoa Maisha in Shakahola.
He climbed the ranks to become Deputy Base Commander in Malindi in 2023, where he gained a reputation for his traffic management strategies.
He currently serves as Base Commander in Garissa Township, where his commitment to road safety reached new heights.
Throughout his career, Njuguna has won various awards including the July 4, 2025, Traffic Base Commander of the Year.
The Road Safety Excellence Awards, hosted by AA Kenya, celebrated individuals and institutions making outstanding contributions to road safety.
