Kenya Prisons announces recruitment of prison constables; See requirements

The Kenya Prisons Service has announced the recruitment of cadet officers, technicians, and artisans.

In an advertisement on Monday, April 7, the service said the exercise will take place on April 30, 2025, across all 47 counties.

“The Kenya Prisons Service wishes to announce to the general public that there are vacancies for Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, and Artisans available. Prospective candidates wishing to apply MUST satisfy the general conditions and requirements listed below,” reads part of the notice.

Among the slots advertised for professional cadet officers include Medical Officers (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Psychiatrists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Pharmacists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), and Dentists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons).

Others are Architects (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Physical Planners (Chief Inspector of Prisons), Civil Engineers (Chief Inspector of Prisons), and Counseling Psychologists/Sociologists (Inspector of Prisons).

On the other hand, vacancies available in the category of professional/technical/artisan include Public Health Officers, Community Oral Health Officers, Dental Technology Officers, Radiographers, Orthopedic Officers, Occupational Therapy Officers, and Physiotherapy Officers, among others.

Requirements for Positions Advertised

Interested applicants wishing to fill the advertised positions must meet various requirements. They include:

  1. Must be a Kenyan citizen.
  2. Have a valid National Identification Card.
  3. Have no criminal record.
  4. Be between the ages of 18-30 years for Degree holders.
  5. Be between the ages of 18-28 years for Diploma and Certificate holders.
  6. Be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall for men and 5 feet 2 inches tall for women.
  7. Be physically and medically fit.
  8. Have good hearing and clear vision.
  9. Female candidates MUST not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during training.

Applicants for all positions must fill out the PSC.2 form (Revised 2007), which can be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website.

Completed applications should be addressed to: The Commissioner General of Prisons Prisons Headquarters P.O. Box 30175-0100, Nairobi.

“Applications should be submitted before 5 pm on April 30, 2025, and delivered to the Prisons Headquarters, located on Bishops Road, Community Area.”

The recruitment process is completely free of charge, and the government has warned against corruption, noting that any individual caught presenting falsified documents or engaging in corrupt practices will be disqualified and prosecuted.

“Bribery and other acts of corruption are unlawful. Any person presenting themselves for recruitment with falsified documents or engaging in corrupt practices will be disqualified and prosecuted,” Prisons Commissioner General Patrick Aranduh said.

Candidates are urged to bring their original documents, including their National IDs, birth certificates, academic certificates, KRA PIN, and other relevant testimonials.

Successfully shortlisted candidates will be notified via print media.
