Ngilu fumes after appearing in Kitui Governor ballot paper

Outgoing Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has appeared in the Kitui Governor ballot paper. This is despite withdrawing from the race in favour of her opponent David Musila.

Musila is contesting on the Jubilee ticket. Ms. Ngilu said that her appearance on the ballot paper is a ploy to divide the vote by creating confusion amongst her supporters.

IEBC Kitui County Returning officer Macharia Gichichi said the presence of Ngilu’s name in the candidate’s list was null and void since on July 19th she wrote to IEBC withdrawing from the race.

On the ballot papers, Ngilu was listed the fourth candidate after former governor Julius Malombe, former Nairobi DG Jonathan Mueke and former Kitui Senator David Musila.

Ngilu withdrew from the race on June 15th during a campaign rally addressed by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga at Mutha market in Kitui South constituency.

6.5 million Kenyans had voted by noon, says IEBC

“I expected the IEBC to act fast after I notified them in writing. Such mistakes should not have occurred because it will lead to spoilt votes,” said Ngilu.

“The people of Kitui know I threw my weight behind the Jubilee Party candidate David Musila, and went round campaigning for him,  that fact hasn’t changed.”
