Education and career profile of KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome

KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome started serving as the boss of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service on February 1, 2021.

Agnes Wahome’s journey to becoming KUCCPS CEO

She got this position following a competitive recruitment process that was undertaken by the Board of the Placement Service in January 2021. Prior to this, Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome had been serving as the chief executive in an acting capacity since November 13, 2020.

Dr. Wahome is a graduate of the University of Nairobi. She holds a Master of Arts in Medical Sociology from the University of Nairobi and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Communication from the same university.

Co-Op post

In April 2021, she became the first Kenyan to be conferred with a PhD in Health Communication by a university in Kenya when she graduated from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology with a PhD.

An international scholar and researcher, she is an alumnus of the Dutch Embassy and Sweden’s government agency for development cooperation (SIDA) education scholarships.

Dr. Wahome’s impact on university placements

Dr. Wahome had joined KUCCPS in 2018 as the manager in charge of research and knowledge management. She then set up the Research and Knowledge Management Department, and took a lead role in the publication of the Placement Service’s inaugural career guidance book – The Essential Career Guide – which was meant to assist secondary school students in making informed career decisions.

Dr. Wahome was also instrumental in coordinating and monitoring the implementation and reporting of the organization’s Performance Contract and Strategic Plan.

Previously, Dr. Wahome had managed programmes for numerous international development organisations including USAID, Oxfam Netherlands (Novib), the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation and Elton John Foundation.

She had also served as a research consultant for Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (USA), ACF (France) and Pathfinder International.
