The Kenyan High Commissions in Berlin Germany, Paris France, and Abuja Nigeria have leaking roofs and cracked walls. A report by the Auditor General Nancy Gathungu has exposed the deplorable conditions of Kenya’s Missions buildings in these countries, and called for expedited renovations.
According to the report, the Kenyan High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, for instance was found to have leaking roofs after a physical inspection. The leaks were found in the roofs of the chancery building, the residence of the High Commissioner, and even in the staff quarters.
In Berlin, the inspection discovered damaged roofs, cracks on walls, and leakages at the attic terrace balcony. There were also damages on the gates hydraulic and locking system, the veranda. The exterior ceiling on the first floor of the building was damaged and paint all around the building was found peeling off.
At the Kenyan Mission in Paris, France, a physical inspection found the building to be in the same state as the previous two, with walls webbed in cracks. In particular, there were major cracks in the walls of the chancery running from the ground floor to the third floor of the building.

The roofs were found to be leaking and there was evidence of flooding in the basement and yard. Ceilings in the building had spots that showed leakages and the paint on the walls was peeling off. In addition, the residence of Kenya’s Ambassador to France was found with damaged fittings and tiles, and corroded gutters.
An inspection at the Mission in Beijing, China found glaring security gaps. For instance, the Kenya Mission in Beijing was located next Ambassador’s residence. However, there were no CCTV installations at either of the two buildings to monitor activities around the buildings. The Mission did not also have any security guards and the buildings lacked fire detectors.
