Lawrence Warunge Njoroge has confessed to killing his parents, brother, cousin and their farm worker. The 22-year-old says that he committed the murders at their home in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu county.

He confessed to the killing hours after he was arrested in connection to the murder. It was earlier feared that Warunge might have also been killed. However, this theory was quickly done away with, and the university student became the top suspect in the multiple homicides.

According to media reports, Lawrence who is the first-born son in the family was arrested on Friday evening after a search by the detectives in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County. He was arrested in the company of a woman believed to be his girlfriend. the girlfriend is reportedly a resident and businesswoman in Thika.

How Cohen’s murder was planned and body found – detectives

After his confession, Lawrence led police to a residence in Mai Mahiu area on Saturday where they recovered the killer weapon- a kitchen knife-, clothes, shoes and a piece of paper. He had thrown the exhibits to a pit latrine. Police dug the wall of the latrine and used ropes to recover the exhibits from the 20-feet deep pit. He also took police to an open field in the same area where he said he burnt some of the evidence. The police believe that at least three people may have participated in the murders.

A report that appeared in the Sunday Nation said that Lawrence’ mother may have been the first to be killed. Investigators believe that the attacker first entered into the home through the kitchen door where he first found the mother.

“The assailant may have then gone for her nephew Maxwell Njenga, 13, who may have tried to respond to the noise in the kitchen. His body was found on the corridor. Christian Njoroge, also 13, whose body was found in his bedroom, may have been the next to be killed before the father, who had tried to escape from the scene by jumping from the balcony of the master bedroom upstairs. The farm’s foreman James Kinyanjui may have been the last to lose his life and detectives believe that he may have been killed because he witnessed the murders,” the report said.

A related report that appeared in The Star newspaper said that the most chilling part was where Lawrence Warunge Njoroge claimed that he caught up with his father-Nicholas Njenga Warunge-as he escaped from him after he broke one of his legs after jumping off a balcony.

“He says the father was hit by an electric cable as he ran away and jumped off the balcony and was indisposed further after he fractured a leg. This gave him time to catch up with him and killed him like a snake,” the report quoted an officer.
